This middle school level class is a more than an introduction to the language. The course provides an excellent foundation for high school level courses. Students will focus on vocabulary, but they will also learn important grammar concepts from high school Spanish I and II. Each chapter has an extensive vocabulary list on one topic. Students learn the language through reading, hands on activities, puzzles, projects, and speaking activities. Students become comfortable speaking and reading in Spanish, which makes high school courses easier for them. The younger a student is when he starts a foreign language the easier it is for him to learn. (For students who wish to take an advanced middle school class additional work will be provided.)

Students build conversation skills through the text Diga, Diga: Basic Spanish Conversations. (Students purchase only the main text and the reader, Mariana. This year in Language Lab students will write, create, and publish an online Spanish language magazine. This magazine will be geared toward high school and college students of the language as well as ESL students. All students will participate in research, writing, and editing. Upper level students will hold positions as editors and advisors. Students will receive valuable experience in team work, journalism, leadership, and translation. At the end of the school year each student will receive a reference letter based on his individual participation for future education or employment

She began her Spanish instruction as a child living in Panama and continued with the language, receiving her B.A. from Bridgewater College. American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual-spatial language used by the majority of Deaf persons in the United States and Canada. It is a complete language with its own structure, grammatical rules, and semantic expressions.
ASL 1 Introduces students to the ASL language and its culture. Emphasis is placed on developing the basic language skills of communicating: expressive ("talking") and receptive ("listening") skills. Students will learn basic ASL grammar, vocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers, and cultural information related to the Deaf Community.

Experience Latin through the lives of a first century A.D. Roman family in the ancient town of Pompeii.
